Rochelle CrumpPrior to joining DCFS on June 12th  as the Chief of African-American Services, Ms. Crump served an appointment by  the Governor as the Assistant Director for the Illinois Department of Veterans’  Affairs (IDVA) from August 1, 2003, where she managed all outreach and special  events, including the management of 51 veteran service field and appeal offices  responsible for assisting Illinois’ one million veterans with awareness, and  claim initiation for state, federal and local VA benefits and entitlements. In  addition, she managed the grants division responsible for administering state  war bonuses, survivor compensation, educational benefits and reimbursement of  cartage and erection fees of government markers; the state approving agency a  federal program responsible for the approval of the state of Illinois college  and non-college degree programs, vocational flight training, apprenticeships  and on-the job training for veterans utilizing their education benefits  administered by the federal Department of Veterans Affairs. Crump also managed  that agency’s Information Systems division, which was responsible for the  agency’s technology system and programs.

Ms.  Crump currently is a consultant for St Sabina the Ark and oversees a community men’s  basketball night. The program is successful targeting young me 18 years and older.  On an average the program meets its mission and keeps more than 30 at risk  young men off the streets every Wednesday night. Prior to being a consultant,  she worked part-time developing projects and activities for after school and  week-end programs for youths 6-18 years old.

Crump also served an appointment by Mayor Daley from July 1998 to July 2003 as  the director/community liaison for the Chicago Commission on Human Relations  (CCHR), where she directed the functions of the Mayor’s Advisory Council on  Veterans Affairs and implemented awareness programs and events in the veteran  community to promote the mission of the CCHR. Ms. Crump also served as a Board  Commissioner for the Commission on Human Relations. Prior to the city  appointment, Crump was employed for two-years with Featherfist, a social  service agency where she managed a homeless program at the Washington Park  YMCA. Crump was employed for 23-years with the federal Department of Veterans  Affairs as a benefits counselor; during that tenure, she also served as the  federal women’s program manager and the EEO Chairman. Ms. Crump is president of  the National Women Veterans United (NWVU), Chairman for Congressman Danny K.  Davis (7th) Veteran’s task Force and Chairman of Inner Voice Inc a  service provider for the homeless. Ms. Crump served honorably in the Women’s  Army Corps from 1971-1973 and holds a Master of Science Degree in Community  Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University.
